Advert Idea - Beauty and Cosmetics Advert
To begin, the aim of this unit is to '' give learners the opportunity to enhance their skills through the planning and management of a media production of their choosing'' as was said in the specification. This means that I am going to need to decide on what to produce from the various productions I have had experience in making throughout the past two years. Although this may be tough as I have thoroughly enjoyed making most but not all of the productions in media, I think that my choice will be based on the one I most enjoyed making and was passionate about. Subsequently, after considering everything I have decided that I will go with an advert production, because I found it the most enjoyable from previously making a chocolate advert in my unit 30. Also, I found the planning, research, filming and editing of the advert quite satisfying. Having said that, I also paired up with another pupil in the class, because we had similar ideas for which we merged together to come up with the following idea displayed below on the mind-map.

Here is the mind map showing the initial advert idea I chose. This is going to be a cosmetics advert, where I am advertising a make-up product, which I have decided will be the matte lipstick range from the brand MUA (Make-up Academy). My choosing of this was primarily because of my passion for beauty and the art of make-up, I also own a collection of make-up products from various brands which I enjoy wearing on a day to day basis. The idea behind the advert is to advertise Make-up Academy's lipsticks, where we'd like to cast up to 5 girls of different ethnicities and of the same age group as us, having them wear bold and unconventional colours such as bright blue, red , purple and pink. This is to promote a message that women can be as confident as they want to be and that there is no barrier when it comes to beauty, regardless of your race or ethnic background. This message is what forms the basis of the advert idea and from it we have been in conversation with 3 females in school who fit the ethnicity groups we're looking for, and all 3 have agreed that they will participate in the advert. The next step would be to develop the idea further by thinking of the various conventions of a beauty advert, such as the location (s), music, lighting and editing styles. One of the conventions we will be implementing in the advert is the lighting, where we will be using high key lighting to conform to the generic conventions of a cosmetics advert. This will easily be done using the lights provided for us at school as they are professional and shine quite brightly. The editing style of some, but not all of beauty adverts is very fast pace, which means that each shot must last up to 2 seconds so that we can get it to cut to the beat at the same time. This, we have done in the past so will have no problem with doing again here. As you can see from the L'Oreal Paris make-up advert to the right there are cuts after every 2-4 seconds. This keeps the audience engaged through the up beat pace of the advert and also urges them to watch it till the end.
