Evaluation on Results of Advert

Image
To begin, our advert idea was put together by merging both my ideas and Afsana's ideas of what we pictured our beauty ad would include. The advert followed the generic conventions of a typical cosmetics advert in more ways than one. One way it followed the generic conventions was through the structure of the advert, and the sequence of shots. Although the duration is only 30 seconds, the beginning included the name of the brand flashing in big bold writing, which drew the audience in right from the start and captured their interest, also it allowed for the audience to be introduced to the brand right from the beginning. The next few shots showing the participants / models posing in different positions with their lipsticks on, this was so that they could feel comfortable, and also not to delay the audience from seeing the lipstick colours. I think this structure fits the purpose of this particular type of advert because it is what you'd expect from a lipstick advert. Next ...

Secondary Content Research

Image
This Morning - ITV Having carried out some primary research in creating questionnaires and filming interviews, I will now look at some secondary research which will give me further detail into the beauty world and in particular the make-up industry. Here is a clip from the ITV show 'This Morning' showing a  debate between two females, about make-up and its importance. The two sides are very much separated in opinions and from watching the clip, I can see why there are two sides to an argument about make-up. This is because I would say I agree more with one of the ladies more than the other, not because the points she is making are correct but rather because, for me, their argument weighs more and I find it more understandable. The debate is about the use of make-up and how it may or may not be important. The first lady called 'Rebecca' who is a businesswomen says that make-up is important for women to wear because ''it's all about the image that you p...

This week me and Afsana have completed our filming for the advert. As you can see from the pictures to the right, the girls are wearing their lipsticks. For Christiana a vivid purple, for Neeshat a hot red, for Yvonne a tropical orange and for Mariana Rosie pink.We believed these colours suited our cast members as we matched it with their skin tones. As you can see this has proven to work as the colours look good on the girls. The filming process went smoothly and quickly because Afsana and I directed the girls on exactly what we wanted them to do in terms of posing. Also, the girls followed our instructions and done what we wanted to achieve. Editing was also a quick and easy process because we knew how we were going to cut the shots to the beat of the song in order to make it work. As you can from the screengrab below this is our advert editing timeline on Final Cut Pro.  Screengrab of editing  Below is a screengrab of the set up of our advert during the production...

Location Recce

Image
Here is our location recce where we will be filming for our make-up advert. We have chosen this location as we needed a white back drop, in order to conform to the generic conventions a beauty advert. This will also come in handy since our lipstick colours are bold and vibrant which will make them stand out even more. As you can see from the image to the right, we have set-up lights in a studio fashion, in order to not get any shadows in whilst filming. This is what would be done in a real professional make-up / beauty advert.

Shooting Script

Production Log- 4

This week Afsana and I have bought our lipstick and have also started filming for our make-up advert. Although we wanted to get every girl in one shot at the end,we found this difficult as everyone had different timetables, and so getting them all on the same day would almost be impossible in a short amount of time. The first half of filming went smoothly and we got some decent shots. This means that the editing may also turn out to be quick and simply. Therefore, the next steps will be to finish the filming and edit the advert down to 30 seconds.

Production Log- 3

This week Afsana and I have been out shopping for the Make-Up Academy lipsticks, which is the only prop we will need to purchase for this production. The lipsticks are from the drugstore Boots and each unit will cost £1.00. As we're buying 5 lipsticks between us this will cost us £5.00. The next steps will be to begin filming the advert and correcting any mistakes made during filming by re-filming specific shots.

Production Log- 2

This week me and Afsana have carried out some primary research for our advert research. This consisted of some interviews with some of the cast members, for which we asked a number of questions to in order to get their opinions on make-up in general and our make-up advert idea.

Production Log- 1

This week we have started unit 4, thinking about an idea for a production we may want to make. After  considering everything I have decided that I will go with an advert production, because I found it the most enjoyable from previously making a chocolate advert in my unit 30. Also, I found the planning, research, filming and editing of the advert quite satisfying. Having said that, I also paired up with another pupil in the class, because we had similar ideas for which we merged together to come up with the following idea displayed below on the mind-map.

Advert Idea - Beauty and Cosmetics Advert

Image
To begin, the aim of this unit is to '' give learners the opportunity to enhance their skills through the planning and management of a media production of their choosing'' as was said in the specification. This means that I am going to need to decide on what to produce from the various productions I have had experience in making throughout the past two years. Although this may be tough as I have thoroughly enjoyed making most but not all of the productions in media, I think that my choice will be based on the one I most enjoyed making and was passionate about. Subsequently, after considering everything I have decided that I will go with an advert production, because I found it the most enjoyable from previously making a chocolate advert in my unit 30. Also, I found the planning, research, filming and editing of the advert quite satisfying. Having said that, I also paired up with another pupil in the class, because we had similar ideas for which we merged together to co...

Constraints

Image
Time The first constraint I will consider is the time it will take during pre-production , the production itself and post-production. Timing is vital in any media production as it is what determines whether the planning , filming and editing is done thoroughly or not. This is because each stage takes time as well as effort for you to perfect it. For instance, in pre-production the planning is the most important aspect as it requires us to brainstorm ideas for the production considering everything that will be undertaken in the production and post-production process. We will also need to work around our cast members timetables, to ensure we're filming with them at an appropriate time that is flexible for them, as exams are approaching. Costs/Expenses The cost is also a limitation to consider, as there are definitely props which we are going to invest our own money into. As our advert is about promoting a lipstick from the brand MUA we're going to need to buy this from the...
